Warminster Town travelled to Cheddar on Tuesday night to take on the league leaders.

The first half hour was fairly even with both teams creating a couple of half chances, but these were comfortably dealt with by both keepers. In atrocious conditions, the two sides were hell-bent on getting the ball down and playing some entertaining football, which was pleasing for the spectators who braved the elements.

The only goal of the game came in the 31st minute when the home team knocked in a hopeful long cross, which Warminster failed to deal with and gifted Cheddar a free header at the far post which was headed back across goal and into the side netting giving Nathan Ball no chance.

The goal seemed to deflate the visitors and the final fifteen minutes of the half saw Cheddar very much in control, but thankfully they didn’t create too many clear cut chances.

The second half was a fairly even contest with both defences very much in charge.

Warminster had a valiant attempt Cheddar to try and find an equalizer, but the very well organized home defence rarely gave Warminster many opportunities and Conner McKay and Jake Wright were very much feeding on scraps!’

Warminster will be kicking themselves for switching off in the first half allowing Cheddar to score the only goal but they aren’t top of the league by accident, and all good teams have a knack of finding a way to win. The red and blacks gave their all, and nobody could question what they put into the game, and on another day they could have taken something from the game.

Warminster are on the road again on Saturday when they travel to Longwell Green. If the can replicate Tuesday’s performance and effort, they will surely have a good chance of taking something from the game.
