Warminster Town Charity Run

Warminster town smashes targets

Throughout the month of February, players from Warminster Town’s first team, ladies team and the reserves have been running and adding up the miles. They aimed to run virtually from Weymouth Street to FC Barcelona, a distance of just over 1000 miles during February. They did well and passed this distance with time to spare.

All this running was not just to keep fit, but to raise funds for the Warminster and District Foodbank, with a goal of raising £500. This target too was smashed! A total of £1385 has been generously donated.

Owen Bartley who came up with the idea to raise funds this way is delighted with the response of the players and donors and wishes to thank everyone for their time and kind donations. He added, “The foodbank relies on donations of food, and with the increase in demand due to the pandemic has been spending an additional £400 per month. The sum raised will go a long way to helping those in need during these difficult times.”

The players of Warminster Town Football Club, the Ladies Team and Reserves are adding up the miles they run to raise funds for the Warminster & District Food Bank, starting Feb 1st.

The miles run over 28 days is set to be the equivalent of running from Warminster Town’s Weymouth Street ground to the Camp Nou Barcelona, a distance of 1000 miles.

Warminster player, Owen Bartley (pictured above) wanted to help a local charity deal with the effects of poverty, especially being made worse by the Covid19 pandemic. Owen and the teams have set a target of £500, but hope the supporters and the good people of Warminster will help to smash this by their generosity.

Regular updates will be issued throughout February on the progress being made, via the club website and social media accounts.
