It’s Hard Cheese For Town At Cheddar
Cheddar AFC 2(1) Warminster Town 1(1)
Attendance 86
Manager Rob Nash made two changes from the team that started in Tuesday’s defeat at Radstock. Matt Green replaced Callum Hotine in goal and Jack Duck replaced Myles Woodward on the wing. Warminster went into this fixture on a run of five league games without a win and for a second consecutive game missing three strikers.
Cheddar had the better of the early exchanges going close on 11 minutes with a shot just wide of the near post and then in the 21st minute a free header in the centre of the box which flew wide of the opposite post. In the 26th minute Warminster’s Seb Hounsell’s long range shot troubled the home keeper Reagan Darcy who made a spectacular diving save. On 32 minutes Seb Hounsell’s shot from just outside box was again well saved by Darcy. Warminster were on top at this stage of the game and four minutes later they took the lead. A cross from the right fell to wing back Toby Worts on the edge of the box. Darcy got a hand to his shot but he could not keep it out, one-nil to Town. Cheddar upped their game and equalised in the 43rd minute through a well worked goal. A cross from the left into the box was laid off superbly into the path of Lewis Chappell who smashed the ball past Town’s keeper Matt Green, one all.
In the first minute of the second half the hosts went close to taking the lead. A goalmouth scramble almost produced a goal but Matt Green and his defenders made a number of blocks and saves. On 64 minutes Town’s Henry McFerrin’s header from a right side corner went close but just wide. Cheddar were looking the side most likely to break the deadlock and they took the lead on 80 minutes. An in-swinging corner from the left led to another scramble in the six yard box and Jamie Moss forced the ball over the line, two-one to the hosts. Warminster pressed for an equaliser and the did create some late chances but Cheddar held out to take all three points.
Town will be looking to end their poor run when they return to Weymouth Street next weekend to take on Odd Down.
