Lebeq Utd 3 Warminster Town 1

For the final Saturday in August, Warminster Town had a trip to Oaklands Park, Almondsbury, to play Lebeq Utd on a 3G pitch.

From the start of this match, it was evident that Lebeq had pace in the team and prove dangerous on the break. This ability proved to be the undoing of the visitors, who failed to capitalise on several opportunities to score in this match. The final score was 3 – 1 to the home side.

Warminster started well and created many chances in the first half, which went over the Lebeq crossbar. The Lebeq keeper gave the impression that if tested could be beaten. However, with no shots to try him, we could not verify that.

In the 34th minute, Lebeq went close, hitting the crossbar with a right-footed shot from Lebeq’s number 9 from the edge of the penalty area. The danger signs were there for the Red & Blacks.

The opening goal from Lebeq came in the 42nd minute with a run down their right, and number 10 cut and fired home from their right edge of the box. Halftime 1 – 0

Warminster almost pulled one back within the opening minute when Seviour, close to goal, shot the ball wide of the left-hand post. The second goal came (58)when Lebeq’s number 7 went down the right, beat Ian Jeffery and shot across goal with only Thomson to beat, into the left side of the net. Ten minutes later, the player found himself sent off to the sin bin for abusive language to a linesman.

Lebeq did seem to tire and started to defend a little deeper, giving Warminster hope of getting back into the game.

Just before the half-hour, Luke Johnson came on for Lisowski. A few minutes later (78), this moved paid off, and with good work down the right, Johnson saw his shot rifle into the net.

Manager Andy Crabtree made a final throw of the dice to get the equaliser by substituting Martin Johnson for Jordan De Silva and moving the taller Lewis Graham upfront. Warminster went all out, but unfortunately, with 2 minutes to go, Lebeq got their third goal. With Warminster stretched, the home side broke through, and 12 yards could put the ball past Thomson.

The final score Lebeq Utd 3 Warminster Town 1 and a few more shots on target could have been a very different result for The Red & Blacks.
