Warminster Denied A Precious Point In Stoppage Time
Bradford Town 2 (1) Warminster Town 1 (1)
Ahead of this game the hosts Bradford Town occupied fourth place in the Western League Division One table, Warminster Town 20th. With just two points on their travels this season Warminster were hoping for that elusive first win on the road.
Warminster started quickly and had a great chance in the first minute when a cross from the left picked out Jack Newman in the box but his header was just wide of the post. In the 19th minute Bradford went close to scoring. A free kick was played into the box and it fell to Jaiden Pearce with his back to the goal. He turned and shot but it was deflected wide for a corner. On 23 minutes Warminster went behind when they were caught out by a quick Bradford break. Cal Demkiv sent Tom Mack clear on the right who ran into the box and fired past Warminster keeper Matt Green, 1-0. Two minutes later Corey Gardner had a half chance when he received a pass on the edge of the box but he was dispossessed before he could get a shot off. Then in the 27th minute Warminster equalised. Seb Hounsell sent a long free kick into the Bradford box. Jake Wright controlled the ball superbly, rounded the keeper and fired in 1-1. In the 33rd minute Jake Wright was on the end of another long ball but this time was unable to create any space to fire goal wards. Four minutes later a Warminster corner from the left was cleared just outside the the penalty area where it was volleyed by Reece Collyer but it flew just wide of the right hand post. In the 40th minute former Warminster striker Tyson Pollard tested Matt Green but the Warminster keeper saved well. Then in first half stoppage time the hosts went close again when Tom Mack’s curling shot from just outside the box struck the far post and rebounded clear. At the break it was all square 1-1.
Four minutes after the restart Tyson Pollard wasn’t far off target for the hosts with a spectacular overhead kick from a right side cross. On the hour a Bradford half clearance fell to Reece Collyer just outside the box but he volleyed straight at the Bradford keeper Tom Creed. In the 63rd minute Tyson Pollard was on the end of a Tom Mack pull back but his shot just cleared the Warminster crossbar. Four minutes later Warminster had a half chance when Jake Wright found Corey Gardner in space but the winger shot wide with Creed out of his goal. In the 75th minute Bradford won a penalty. Cal Demkiv came from behind Owen Bartley just as the Warminster player was about to clear the ball. He accidentally caught the player and the referee pointed to the spot. Up stepped Tyson Pollard but Matt Green dived to his right to save the spot kick and the ball was scrambled to safety. As the game went into injury time Warminster looked to have earned a precious away point but it wasn’t to be. Bradford substitute Sammy Jordan got on the end of a hopeful punt downfield, outpaced the last defender and slipped the ball past Matt Green. It was a cruel blow for Warminster who had played well and deserved something from a fine performance.
