Warminster’s Poor Away Form Continues
Mendip Broadwalk 5(1) Warminster Town 1(0)
Attendance 51
Warminster were away from home for a third consecutive Saturday hoping for an upturn in their form on their travels.
Broadwalk started brightly and in the 18th minute Town’s keeper, Matt Green was tested, saving a shot from close range. On 23 minutes, however, he was beaten to a long ball by Broadwalk’s Connor Biggins who having won possession fired into the empty net, 1-0. Town started to threaten and in the 34th minute first Corey Gardner had a shot in the box blocked and then Max Whittaker fired over the bar from the edge of the area. At the break Town only trailed by the one goal.
A minute after the restart a spectacular volley from outside the penalty area by Rhys Hickery doubled Broadwalk’s lead, 2-0. Just two minutes later Reece Collyer gave Town hope. The midfielder in the penalty area fired back across the home keeper to pull a goal back for the visitors, 2-1. Town were briefly in the ascendancy and on 52 minutes a Broadwalk defender came so close to scoring an own goal when his defensive header flew just wide of the post. Then four minutes later Jake Wright had a great chance at the back post but the home keeper, Lewis Coombes saved well.
The turning point came on the hour. Broadwalk substitute Elliot Moore, in what appeared to be a clear offside position, received the ball and ran on but the linesman failed to raise his flag. A Last ditch tackle denied the forward but the ball broke to Jack Medjedoub who side footed into the net, 3-1. The momentum had shifted and seven minutes later Elliot Moore broke down the left and played the ball inside. A second pass found Jack Medjedoub who beat Matt Green, 4-1. Then in the 81st minute Jack Medjedoub completed his hat trick when he lifted the ball over Matt Green who got a hand to the ball but couldn’t keep it out, 5-1.
Next Saturday Town return to Weymouth Street, where they have only lost once in the league this season, to take on Avonmouth and hopefully get back to winning ways.
