Under Strength Warminster Town Defeated In Local Derby
Radstock Town 4(2) Warminster Town 1)0)
Warminster Town went into this fixture with a severely depleted attack missing Corey Gardner, Jack Newman and Jake Wright. Despite this they started well and caused Radstock early problems particularly from early set pieces.
In the 5th minute a Warminster corner led to a fierce shot that Radstock’s keeper Tom Crouch saved superbly tipping it over the bar. Having survived Town’s quick start the home side started to threaten themselves and in the 13th minute Warminster’s keeper Callum Hotine saved well from Jed Parfitt diving low at his near post. Three minutes later Warminster went close to scoring when Toby Worts broke clear of the last Radstock defender and poked the ball past the home keeper but unfortunately just the wrong side of the post. Then a poor Warminster defensive pass led to another Jed Parfitt shot but once again the Radstock forward was thwarted by the diving Callum Hotine. Then on 24 minutes Radstock took the lead when a cross from the left was turned in by the dangerous Jed Parfitt, one-nil. Six minutes later it got worse when Radstock doubled their lead. This time a low cross from the opposite side was turned in off the underside of the crossbar by Barclay Lloyd-Foster, two-nil. With Radstock on top, Warminster were thankful to hear the halftime whistle giving them a chance to regroup.
Warminster started well after the break and on 51 minutes they pulled a goal back with a great Braden Humphreys header from a right side corner, two-one. Warminster were now having their best spell of the game and on 66 minutes Myles Woodward was sent clear one on one with the keeper but he fired straight at Tom Crouch. At this point Warminster looked the most likely team to score next but on 75 minutes a hopeful long punt into the visitors’ box, from Radstock’s Matt Curnock, was inexplicably dropped over his own goal line by the usually dependable Callum Hotine, three-one. That goal killed Warminster’s momentum and on 87 minutes Radstock scored again with a right foot shot from just outside the box into the bottom corner by Ben Wickens, four-one.
Not the best of evenings for Warminster Town who slipped to 18th in the Western League Division One table. With a quick turnaround they have the chance to get back on track when they travel to Cheddar on Friday evening.
