The Warminster Town travelling fans looked forward to a good game at the league leaders, Sherborne Town. On a bright but windy Saturday afternoon, the game got underway. In the first half, both teams were evenly matched. The second half saw Warminster undone in the opening minutes from two set-pieces, and those goals were the only ones in the game. 2-0 to the home side and 3 points to increase their lead at the top of the table.
Both teams had opportunities to score in the opening 45 minutes. The visitors went close to scoring after five minutes when a Mortimer-Taylor free-kick flashed across the face of the Zebras goal. Five minutes later, an excellent pass from Wain on the left reached Johnson on the edge of the box on the right. Johnson shot and saw the ball fly over the Sherborne crossbar.
Warminster restricted the home side to few goal-scoring opportunities in the first half. However, that was undone right at the beginning of the second. Within two minutes of the restart, Sherborne was awarded a corner. Taken from the right, the ball was met by Josh Williams, who found himself unmarked with space to shoot. Warminster Town had switched off for a moment, which cost them dearly.
Sherborne’s second goal was not long in coming. In the 50th minute, a free-kick and Josh Williams doubled his tally. Both sides had a few more chances to score, and at both ends, each of the goalkeepers had to pull off a very good save.
