Warminster Town 1 Bradford Town 2

Tuesday, August 25th will be remembered for high winds and lashings of rain as storm Francis swept across the UK. Despite the adverse conditions, the preseason friendly went ahead at Weymouth Street between Warminster Town and the Western League Premiership side, Bradford Town.

Both teams had to contend with the weather, and to their credit, they produced an entertaining game of football. Bradford went ahead, scoring two goals in the first half and at the very end of the second half, Warminster pulled one back. Final score, Warminster Town 1 Bradford Town 2.

Bradford, as expected, started brightly and went close to scoring in the opening minutes. Nathan Ball in goal for Warminster was called into action on several occasions and produced some fine saves. The visitor’s opening goal came in the 23rd minute when former Warminster captain Charlie Walton, shot low into the bottom right-hand corner.

The second Bradford goal came in the 29th minute when Morgan Marsh slotted the ball into the left corner from inside the 18-yard area. Warminster will be disappointed to have let that one in by leaving the player unmarked.

The home side was not outplayed by the higher league side and battled well. It took though right until the last minute of normal time to score when George Butler headed home a ball from a free kick on the left-hand side.

Warminster can now look forward to the first game of the season with a home fixture on Saturday, September 5th against Radstock Town.
