This match was the first time the two teams had ever met. AEK Boco, new to the Toolstation Western League, came away with all 3 points by scoring 3 goals against Warminster’s 1.
Hopes were high for the home side after an excellent start to the season’s campaign. In the first half, both teams missed golden chances to score. Jack Miluk twice failed to take advantage of defensive weakness for the home side, with Gardner, Bartley (open play) and Cockerill (free kick) all going close.
Late in this half, in the 44th minute, AEK, when a penalty clearance fell to the visitors outside the box, fired into a crowd of players and turned in by AEK’s number 9, Charlie Stevens.
Miluk went close on 58 minutes in the second half with a shot just wide of the left post. More opportunities to score for the Red & Blacks came along, but none found the back of the net. However, the visitors were to put away their chances just over halfway into this half. They scored the second with a run from the centre circle into Warminster’s penalty area and fire past keeper Thomson. The home side must be wondering where their defence was with only one man back in their half when the ball was picked up.
AEK Boco struck for the third time a few minutes later with a fine long-range shot from the left. Warminster scored a consolation goal courtesy of Lewis Graham with a few minutes remaining on the clock. Overall, an under-par performance with some sloppy passing, missed chances and at times, a seeming lack of energy from the home side.
