Gardner Seals The Win
The sun broke through for the opening match of the new season at Weymouth Street. The visitors in their green and white strip, made this a close game. The home side producing the only goal in the second half.
The first half proved to be fairly even. Both sides produced a few opportunities to score but failed to capitalise on them. The Almonds produced the first shot on goal but fired over the bar. Warminster were missing a number of first team regulars, particularly from defence, however, the players who stepped in did very well, which shows the ability the team has in time of need.
Warminster got quickly out of the blocks in the second half and went close to breaking the deadlock. The home side proving to be more assertive over the visitors. The goal came in the 78th minute when Corey Gardner, in the box, struck home the cross from Miluk, firing firmly into the roof of the net. He almost made it 2 when in the final second of the match he beat the keeper only to see the ball hit the bottom of the upright.
A good start for the home team, making them one of the 6 teams in the division to gain 3 points.
