Warminster Town 1(0) Longwell Green Sports 4(1)

Attendance 152

Town’s Weymouth Street pitch had recovered from the midweek deluge that led to the postponement of Wednesday’s game against Avonmouth. Credit should go to the groundsman for getting the pitch playable and unlike recent home games it didn’t cut up badly. Going into this game our visitors Longwell Green Sports were fifth from top of the League One table, Warminster fifth from bottom.

The visitors started brightly and in the 16th minute they went close to scoring when Will Cains header from a left side free kick struck the post. In the 34th minute Sports Liam Oswin’s diving header flew just past Callum Hotine’s left hand post. Just a minute later, however, Sports took the lead. Will Cains  was picked out on the edge of the penalty area and his first time shot to the top corner gave Hotine no chance, 1-0. Town almost replied immediately but Reece Collyer’s header from a free kick into the box bounced off the crossbar. At the break Sports led 1-0.

Town improved at the start of the second half and on 64 minutes Jack Newman was fouled in the box. Corey Gardner stepped up to take the spot kick and beat Sports keeper Jack Sheppard, 1-1. In the 72nd minute Kieran Burpitt’s shot from edge of box was well saved by Sheppard. A minute later, just when Town were starting to look on top, Sports retook the lead. A cross from the left found Tyler Wood who hooked the ball in from the edge of the six yard box, 1-2.  In the 75th minute Tony Pasco increased Sports lead side footing in a right side pass from close range, 1-3. Then eight minutes later a poor clearance fell to Sports’ captain Matt Brown who volleyed in an unstoppable shot, 1-4. There was no way back for Town and the visitors took all three points.
