Warminster Town 3 Tytherington Rocks 0

With only five matches to go until the season’s end, it was good to see a crowd of 134 at Weymouth Street. The visitors, Tytherington Rocks, proved to be a challenging side, and the first half saw end to end action for both teams. All the goals came in the second half, and the home side went on to win 3-0.

The Rocks hit the bar in the opening minutes and showed that they had the potential to take the points from the match. More action immediately followed at the other end as McKay was brought down in the box. Up stepped Martin Johnson for the penalty. The last time the two teams met, Warminster were awarded four penalties and scored four! Today, however, the Rocks keeper dived to his right and saved the ball by the upright.

The visitors continued to threaten Warminster’s goal and had several reasonable attempts to score. Thomson had to make an excellent save in the 29th minute when the Rocks’ number 9 fired a powerful on-target shot. Not to be outdone, Warminster also pressed the away side and had shots at goal, including one disallowed goal for offside (39’). Yet again, with 3 minutes of the half to go, Thomson had to produce a fine save to tip the ball around the post for a corner.

An early second-half change was made by Warminster’s manager, Andy Crabtree, in the 49th minute. On came Matthew Morris for his first appearance to replace Seviour. He immediately made an impact on the game. Picking up on a mistake made by The Rocks’ number 6, he found himself one on one with the keeper running at him down the middle of the pitch. Morris cooly slotted the ball home to break the deadlock.

The debutant, Morris, doubled his tally in the 69th minute with a close-range shot tucked into the left-hand side of The Rocks net. Five minutes later (74’) from a corner kick, Seth Wain made it three with a header within the 6-yard box. Warminster proved in the second period of the game to be the better side and ran out comfortable winners. They have certainly earned a place at the end of season playoffs.
