Warminster Town 5 Portishead Town 0

The Les Phillip Cup is the equivalent of the Carabao League Cup for Western League football clubs. In the first round, Warminster drew Portishead Town and the game took place on Wednesday, October 30th. The weather was inclement but the football on display proved to be truly exciting, a real Cup-tie. All 5 goals were scored by Warminster Town, well worthy with all the effort they put into this game.

Both sides started out brightly and Warminster set off at a high tempo, which they maintained throughout the 90 minutes. In the opening minutes both teams had a good opportunity to score. The opening goal scored by Francois Allan came in just the 5th minute, when Jack Miluk crossed in from the right to Nyke Fletcher who then squared the ball to Allan, now in the box to shoot home.

More chances were to come, mostly for the home side but Nathan Ball had to put in a good save. The second goal was tapped in by central defender, Lewis Graham after more good work from Miluk and Lisowski in the 40th minute. Moments later Allan went close firing just wide and so at halftime the Red & Blacks had a 2 – 0 lead and had given the fans much to applaud.

The second-half kicked off with the same intensity and in the 53rd minute George Butler added his name to the score sheet with a close range shot.

Following a Portishead foul on Warminster’s captain Charlie Walton and his subsequent reaction, saw both players sent off the pitch with a red card each. Fortunately, this did not stop the high intensity of football on the pitch. The hard working Nyke Fletcher scored his first goal and Warminster’s fourth on 69 minutes with a lovely shot on the turn.

The fifth goal in the 74th minute, was from Miluk’s low shot from outside of the central area of the box and saw the ball firmly planted in the back of the net. A superb all round performance from Warminster which showed what they are capable of this season.
