After a couple of away games resulting in a draw at Keynsham two weeks ago and narrow defeat to Swindon Town Development last week, the Ladies were back in action at Weymouth Street!
Warminster were looking to shake off last week’s narrow 3-2 loss away to Swindon Town Development and get revenge over their main title rivals in the reverse fixture!
Warminster started out brightly, bossing the play and after several near misses, finally opened the scoring in the 10th minute. Rebecca Snelling curling a beautiful dipping shot into the top right corner!
Swindon would equalise 5 minutes later however in what was their only real chance of the half. An inswinging corner bouncing off several players before finally being put in the back of the net by Kat Bach.
The home side didn’t let their heads drop though and continued to do a fine job of limiting the visitors and in the 36th minute took the lead again! Shannon Redhouse with some good work on the left wing, squaring the ball to Mia Blazey who coolly finished.
Warminster piled on the pressure in the last 10 minutes of the first half. The 38th minute saw Dani Hull in the Swindon goal pull off a brilliant double save, first tipping Redhouse’s shot onto the post, before getting back up quickly to dive across and save Snellings attempt from the rebound!
There was only so much the visiting keeper could do before Warminster found a way through again however, and on 44 minutes a through ball found Redhouse, who turned well and buried her shot low into the bottom right corner!
Warminster weren’t finished though and capped off an excellent first half performance with a 4th goal in stoppage time. A corner from Maddy Brown headed on by Poppy Spratt found Blazey again to finish.
The second half didn’t see quite as much action as the first. While Warminster were still creating chances, it was Swindon who pulled one back fairly early on through Maddie Hines, heading past Summers from another corner.
The Ladies managed to keep their chances few and far between however, and in the 36th minute, sealed the win from the penalty spot! Captain Millie Spratt stepped up and kept her cool as she had to take it twice with the referee signalling a retake.
